The neighborhood of Five Points is one of Denver’s oldest historic neighborhoods and because of it’s lengthy “jazz” history, is sometimes referred to as the “Harlem of the West”.  The center of the Five Points community has long been the legendary Rossonian building which was erected in 1912.  The jazz club and hotel are still well-know nationally. Many famous jazz musicians performed in Five Points, including Nat King Cole, Billy Holiday,  Duke Ellington and Count Basie.

The name Five Points originates from the diagonal and rectangular grids that came together in Denver’s northeast downtown area.  Because of the placement of the grids, a 5-way intersection was formed, hence the name.  And although a prominent neighborhood, Five Points, was plagued with the influx of drugs and crime between the 1950′s and 90′s, as were many other urban areas.  This hindered the real estate market and commercial development.  New leadership in the neighborhood has led to marked improvement and the rebirth of the once prominent area.
